Closely related to sea urchins, sanddollars are omnivorous Echinoderms that feed on nearly anything they can get into their mouths including crab larvae and algae. When living, they are covered with flexible spines that enable the animal to move and to feed. The gentle lines and geometric markings that sanddollars are known by are only found on the skeleton or “test” of a more complex, dynamic animal.
